The Centre for Excellence in Applied Undergraduate Research Skills (CETL-AURS) was one of four Centres for Excellence awarded to the University of Reading in recognition of existing excellence in research-based learning.

CETL-AURS aim was to to integrate research-based learning in to the curriculum by developing research skills amongst our undergraduates through their active engagement with primary research resources, promoting independent research and analytical thinking.

CETL-AURS was awarded £2.7 million to build on our existing excellence in research-based learning and support further development and innovation in new areas. CETL-AURS funded a variety of projects involving students engaging with the research potential in the University's Museums and Collections, created the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme and the Reading Student Survey, and also funded school-based projects to develop enquiry-based learning in the curriculum. Just under £1million was used to create dedicated undergraduate research spaces and to purchase up-to-date equipment for use in teaching, as well as improving access to the museums and collections for both students and staff.

The University of Reading is one of the United Kingdom's leading research intensive universities, a major contributor to the knowledge economy and internationally recognised for excellence in teaching. We aspire to produce graduates who have developed skills and knowledge of life-long value, have the confidence and enthusiasm to fulfil their personal ambitions and seek to make a difference in the world in which they live.
