Well well, since it seems like I’m the only blogger around here, here goes another post about my experiences with trying to find a work placement for my third year. It seems like my first two posts were generally well received and people wanted to get updates on where I had got to. Where, for those people, I have this post. For everybody else, you can still read it!
Since my last post about being stuck with two companies, a lot of things have changed. The company which offered me the place have now come back with a starting date and have requested my passport details. Meanwhile, I have been in touch with the other company a couple of times to tie-up a few loose ends. I wanted to get a firm offer before I turned down the first company, but since the second seems to be so slow in offering one, I have had no choice but to send off my details to the first in the hope that it will keep them occupied for long enough until the second replies. What a mess!
I should be receiving a call or two from the second company any time now (or within the next day) to get some details and finalise my arrangements so that I can finally be sure where I’ll be working. For obvious reasons I can’t name the companies just yet (they’ll probably read this and get a little annoyed!) but once everything’s confirmed then I’ll do another post with some more details. Hopefully, that shouldn’t take too long…
Until then, if you’re in the same situation, then try to keep both companies as sweet as possible until one offers you a place. After all, large companies can afford to wait a little because they are so over-subscribed. Also, your placement officer will be able to help with calls and delaying tactics until something happens – I know that mine has been invaluable over the past couple of months and has offered me a lot of help. And finally, you can always visit CAS and speak to an adviser during a quick query about any problems you may have.
