Medical Genetics

DNAThis module introduces the methods used to study genes and chromosomes and the methods used to study the molecular basis of human genetic diseases. It then introduces you to a range of genetic diseases such as blood disorders, metabolic disorders involved in heart disease and disease caused by developmental errors. You will also gain experience in interpreting the results of genetic testing for human disease.


Autumn term


Dr Demetris Savva is the Senior Tutor in the School of Biological Sciences and is module convenor for the Recombinant DNA excercise, Medical Genetics and the final year Research Projects. His research interests are the application of molecular biological procedures to investigate genotoxic effects of chemicals in marine invertebrates.

Other lecturers teaching on this module include Professor Emeritus Philippa Darbre, Professor Ketan Patel and Dr Philip Dash.
