Nature Conservation

The module introduces students to the principles and practice of nature conservation, from the underlying ecological principles to priority setting and management strategies. Specific content includes the motivations and rationale for nature conservation, biodiversity assessment, habitat management, habitat restoration and creation and legal and fiscal support for habitat protection. The module will also involve guest speakers and students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience of habitat protection and management. Practical content includes a visit to a local nature reserve, followed by the preparation and presentation of a management plan and a visit to a local habitat restoration project.
