Life at the School of Biological Sciences

Whiteknights Lake photograph by Dr Mark FellowesReading is a great place to live, and for people considering a career in the biological sciences, it provides a wealth of opportunities to gain experience in the laboratory. For those who relish the outdoors, we have a fantastic green campus, and the Chilterns are on our doorstep.

In addition to all of the great facilities offered by the University, the School has its own Admissions Office.

Admissions Office

This office exists to ensure that:

  • The admissions process runs as smoothly as possible.
  • The content of our degrees is as relevant and up to date as possible, making sure that career development is a core part of the programmes.
  • Providing a point of contact for information about educational opportunities outside of Reading, and the UK.

Computing facilities

There are computer rooms available for undergraduate and postgraduate students within the school which are in addition to the central facilities. The pc's in these rooms are loaded with the programs required by our students, including specialised programs for modelling protein structure, GIS analysis and statistical analysis.

The School is also home to a series of student run organisations, including Botanika (the student botany society), the Zoology Society and students volunteer in the Cole Museum.
