Online Courses / Blogs

Do you want to know more about heart disease or even how your heart works? The University of Reading has a strong interdisciplinary research group focused on cardiovascular disease and metabolism and researchers have designed a free 4-week online course run 3 times a year called Heart Health. This consists of presentations, hand's-on practical exercises, assignments and moderated discussion forums. It is designed as a beginner's guide to cardiovascular disease (CVD) aimed at engaging the public to increase knowledge of the causes, consequences and treatment of CVD and to raise awareness of current research. In seven runs, we have had a total of 49,885 participants, 876,661 completed learning activities and 81,011 comments posted. Good for any age, starting from A-level students.

Here Natasha Barrett, Lead Educator, introduces the course...

A participant in the last course run in Feb 2017 commented "Thank you for a wonderful course. I have had a few heart attacks and this is the first time I have understood just what happened and why. Googling heart condition produces 27,700,000 results. Not what I needed. Thank you Thank you THANK YOU"
