Research interests

  • Dose-escalation Studies
  • Bayesian Decision Theory in Phase I Trials
  • Statistical Computing
  • Clinical Trials

My research has primarily focused on the application of Bayesian decision theory to phase I dose-escalation studies. First-into-man (phase I) studies represent the least predictable of all clinical trials. Subjects might be healthy volunteers receiving a mild form of therapy, or late stage patients being treated with a toxic cancer treatment. Investigation of a Bayesian approach, in which prior opinion determines the dose to administer to the first subject is being made and this is later combined with the observed responses to furnish rules for dose-escalation. This research concerns both cancer studies and healthy volunteer studies with repeated dosing of each subject.

Other research interests include time series analysis and environmental statistics.

Collaborative research

I have been involved with collaborative research projects with pharmaceutical companies on dose-escalation in early phase trials.
