Species identification and survey skills

This course gives you the skills and knowledge to embark on a career in ecological consultancy and conservation. You will learn to recognise key characteristics of different species and how this information can be used in the field of ecology.

The School of Biological Sciences has partnered with RSK Ecological Consultants to make this course the perfect blend of academic and industrial knowledge.  It is also sponsored by Tyler Grange through the Invertebrate Survey and Assessment module.

waspWhat You'll Learn

Working both in the laboratory and out in the field, you will learn to recognise the characteristics of vegetation, vertebrate and invertebrate life. You will learn to collect samples, identify different species, and determine the frequency of their occurrence. You will also learn how to make accurate surveys and assessments of samples in the field. You can choose optional modules to tailor the degree towards your own interests.

Perhaps most importantly, the content of the course has been designed to give you exactly the skills needed by ecological consultants: this is a course geared towards making you stand out in the field.
