MRes Entomology BeetleIn this module we focus on the skills required to prepare and stage insects for scientific study and subsequent preservation. Insects can be staged in a variety of ways and the module convener will work closely with the students to ensure that they are able to deploy the techniques required to produce a high quality collection presented in an appropriate manner. The module runs throughout the autumn term and into the spring term. Students can focus on whichever group or groups of insect they like utilising the entomology starter kit supplied through Watkins and Doncaster. Part of the module will involve trips to entomology collections. In addition identification workshops by experts on particular taxonomic groups will be offered. The module will be assessed through the production of an insect collection and the delivery of a seminar covering an entomological topic of the student's choice.

The module is entirely in-course assessed. Autumn Term, 10 credit Core Module (Dr Graham Holloway) and Chris Foster (c.w.foster@reading.ac.uk).
