Visual Resource Centre

The Visual Resource Centre contains a collection of visual materials that is available to support teaching and learning in the School of Arts and Communication Design. It can be used by staff and students within the School for lectures, classroom presentations and coursework, and as a reference collection for private study.
Our resources
We have approximately 90,000 35mm slides that cover the range of art historical periods from antiquity up to the 21st century, and include images of both art and architecture, as well as some relating to photography and design. These can be borrowed for use in lecture or seminar presentations and can als be used within the Visual Resource Centre for private study or exam preparation.
Also available is a growing collection of high quality digital images covering both art and architectrue, and ranging from antiquity to the modern day. The images are accessible through a database in the Visual Resource Centre, where you can browse the collection and download images to use for educational purposes, such as in presentations, coursework and private study. In addition, the main library subscribes to various image databases that are available through their web pages. Please follow the links on the left to access these resources.
We also have around 100 videos and DVDs relating to art, architecture, photography and film which are available for short term loan or for viewing in the Resource Centre. The main library also holds some relevant audio visual materials that can be located through their online catalogue.
Our facilities
As well as our visual collections, we have facilities to scan images from slides, books or other printed materials subject to copyright. We have also developed a web resource that gives support and advice in using images in teaching and learning materials: Using Images in Teaching and Learning.
