Course overview

Bones recovered from and archaeological digThe MA in Archaeology at Reading is modular in format and designed to offer you maximum choice and flexibility in postgraduate study in a department with an international reputation in research and teaching. With guidance and advice from the programme director, you will have the opportunity to choose and combine taught modules and dissertation research in chronological, regional and thematic specialisations according to your interests. You can take the MA as either a one-year full-time degree, or part-time over two years. All taught modules are taken in the Autumn and Spring Terms from October to March. Dissertation research and writing takes place between April and September.

Careers opportunities

The Masters in Archaeology at Reading provides an excellent foundation for those wishing to pursue further research at doctoral level as well as those wanting to enter archaeology as a profession, including field archaeology, museums and heritage management. Other graduates have moved into careers in the areas of the arts, media, management, administration, the civil service, local government, commerce, law, publishing, librarianship and teaching.
