Key Facts:

Sam completed her PhD Trace element associations in dredged canal sediments: implications for disposal to land in 2001 at The University of Reading and then moved to the NERC-ICP-MS Facility at Kingston University where she worked with Dr Kym Jarvis on a pilot study looking at trace element fingerprinting for contaminant source apportionment in road surface deposits.

In 2003 she began working with Dr Andrew Parker on an EPSRC grant looking at molecular-scale changes in dredged canal sediment.

As part of the Town Life project, Sam is currently working as a scientific officer for the excavation at Silchester her personal research focuses on soil samples from the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum (Silchester, Hants), using XRF and acid digestion techniques to look for trends in metal concentrations across the site. This work was featured on the BBC programme Meet the Ancestors: The Lost City.
