Staff Profile:Ms Rebecca Reynolds

Teaching of the following modules:

  • Analysing Museum Displays
  • Object Analysis and Museum Interpretation
Areas of Interest:
  • Use of Museums and Collections in Higher Education

Key facts:

I teach museum-based modules to undergraduates at the University's Museum of English Rural Life (MERL). Students taking the modules develop skills such as analysing museum displays and researching and interpreting objects in the museum. These modules include hands-on work with the MERL collections.

I am currently (2012-13) working on a project which is developing digitised learning resources using collections at MERL and University College London (UCL), for use in Higher Education and beyond. Called "Object-Based Learning for Higher Education", the project is funded by the joint Information Systems committee (JISC) and is a partnership between Reading University, UCL and the Collections Trust.

Previously I worked at the Victoria and Albert Museum for four years researching and developing learning resources for design students, and also developed and taught a museum-based and a creative writing module for art and design undergraduates. This was part of a project funded by The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning through Design (CETLD).

I also teach creative writing to adult learners at the University of Hertfordshire, and write fiction and non-fiction which includes explorations of museums, collections and the meanings which objects have.
