Top in the UK for World-Leading Research in Archaeology
The Research Assement Exercise (RAE) is conducted by the Higher Education Funding Agencies for the UK to assess the quality of research in Higher Education Institutions. Departments are judged by panels of experts in their subject areas.
Following an excellent result in the previous (2001) RAE when, with Oxford and Cambridge, Reading was one of only three Archaeology departments in the UK to receive the top (5*) rating for excellence in research, we did even better in the most recent (2008) assessment: 40% of Archaeology at Reading's research was rated "world-leading", making us the top-ranked department in the UK in this category.
