Archaeology at Reading

The Department of Archaeology building on the Whiteknights campus at the University of Reading

The Department of Archaeology, University of Reading was ranked top among British Archaeology Departments for 'World-Leading Research' (RAE 2008) and has recently been awarded the 'Queen's Anniversary Prize for Excellence in Higher Education' (2009). The Department of Classics also has a long-standing interest and engagement with Archaeology and hosts the Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology.


Roman Archaeology within the Department

The Department has a long-standing reputation for Roman Archaeology. Within it there are Mike Fulford, Hella Eckardt and John Creighton amongst the Academic Staff with interests spanning Roman Britain and Europe. We host a large Post-Doctoral Research Associate community including colleagues working on the Silchester excavations and pulling together across England the grey literature from rural Roman archaeological sites. We also have a strong postgraduate community.
