New Agendas in Near Eastern Archaeology

Thursday 9 January to Saturday 11 January 2014

Conference sessions will cover:

  • New agendas in landscape archaeology
  • Near Eastern archaeology in the contemporary world
  • Other current research themes
  • Excavation and survey reports

Update 8th January

Booking for the Conference has now closed, and more than 120 delegates will be attending.

The Registration Desk will be open from 15:30 Thursday 9th January, in the Palmer Building, Whiteknights campus, University of Reading. All the Conference sessions will be in the Palmer Building, except the Wine Reception on Thursday evening, which will be in the Archaeology Department. You can find travel instructions here:

Car parking: Car Park P3 (where there will be some reserved spaces for Conference delegates) and in other car parks on the campus - permits not required.

We will give you the Conference Programme and Abstracts when you register. You can download the Abstracts booklet here:

 BANEA 2014 Abstracts - final

BANEA's Annual General Meeting will be held at 17:30 in Lecture Theatre 1.09 in the Palmer Building.

Conference Dinner: if you have booked to attend the Conference Dinner (19:00 Friday 10th, at Zerodegrees Restaurant and Brewery, 9 Bridge St, Reading), we will give you the menu choices when you register for the Conference. We need you to complete and return this by 9.30 am on Friday, so we can phone numbers through to the restaurant. We will give you directions to Zerodegrees.

The keynote lecture will be on Thursday 9 January 2014, 5-6 pm

'New Light on an Administrative Device from the Dawn of Writing in the Ancient Near East'

Presented by Christopher E. Woods, Associate Professor of Sumerology, University of Chicago, Oriental Institute

Academic Programme

The paper sessions will be all day Friday 10 and Saturday 11 January 2014. The call for papers has now closed, but we are still accepting proposals for posters. There will be a £50 prize for the best poster.
