Harvesting of crops using tractorsReading has a highly regarded reputation with employers. The nature of the course means that our students are learning real-world applications, in genuine commercial settings. As a result they take away not only theoretical expertise, but also an enviable mixture of transferable skills (not just ICT) including communications and quantitative analysis. The end result is that as well as being in demand by the agricultural sectors, graduates from Reading's Department of Agriculture are sought after by employers in other sectors.

Potential employment areas include farm management, agricultural advisors, accountancy, banking, and consultancy more generally, working for a range of large and small farming enterprises, advisory services and consultancies. Many graduates also set up their own businesses. Graduates from ABM have gone on to work for a variety of employers including: Strutt and Parker, Smiths Gore, Andersons, Price-Waterhouse Coopers, Sainsbury's, and the Rural Payments Agency.
