Staff Profile:Professor Richard Tiffin

Name:
Professor Richard Tiffin
Job Title:
Head of Department
Responsibilities:
  • Director, Centre for Food Security
Areas of Interest:

My research interests are broadly Agricultural Economics, Applied Econometrics and Applied Micro Economics. More specifically, I have worked in time series econometrics covering a range of applications; methodological problems including the use of alternative estimation methods in the presence of trended data and the use of the bootstrap as a method of improving the small sample performance of statistical tests. Recently I have been working using cross sectional and panel data, considering the Bayesian methodology in connection with the estimation of the mixtures model and models with censored data. The former has been applied to the classification of farms whilst the latter is associated with the estimation of demand systems from household data. The demand systems are being used in a wider context as a component of work looking at the linkages between dietary choice and health.
