A carpet making tool or 'carpet layer'. From the workshop of Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire.
This is a carpet making tool, referred to as a 'carpet layer'. It has an ash handle with a mushroom-shaped end, and a semicircular steel blade with pointed teeth. The tool was originally identified as a barking iron. It came from the workshop of Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire. Mr Field retired circa 1960 and the business closed.
