This yoke, referred to as a 'milking stick', was carried on one shoulder. It was used in Over, Cambridgeshire, to carry 8.5 gallons of milk.
Yokes like this were used for carrying buckets about the farms, most commonly in the dairy. Unlike an ordinary yoke, which was carried across the shoulders, this yoke, referred to as a 'milking stick' by the donor, was carried on one shoulder.
