  • Description
Ship’s slice chisel. Used for mortises and tenons. Smith-made c.1826, used by Isaac Beasley, carpenter and overseer on the Grand Junction Canal.
This is a ship’s slice chisel. It is a heavy duty chisel with a socket for a handle, although the donor believed that there was never a handle in the socket, and that the chisel was used without a mallet. It was used for heavy mortises and tenons. It was smith-made circa 1826, and was used by the donor’s grandfather, Isaac Beasley, who started as a carpenter and was an overseer on the Grand Junction Canal.
