  • Description
Two goffering irons and stand. Used to smooth and crimp ruffles in clothes.
Nothing is known of the origin of these two goffering irons and stand. The stand is made of steel and brass. Goffering irons were used to smooth and crimp ruffles in clothes. The iron would be heated in a fire until red-hot, then inserted into the barrel of the stand to heat the outside of the barrel, on which the cuffs and frills would be crimped.
