This cradle, with stand, was used by the babies in the donor's family, at Hopgoods Farm, Stoke, Hampshire. It originally rocked in the stand, but was later adapted with rockers under the main body so that it could be used on the floor without the stand, to avoid the risk of the baby falling out if it was rocked too fast. It is made of teal, with a slatted bottom. The stand is probably made of beech wood. It dates from the late 19th century.
