Description
DEACCESSIONED. Please note that this object no longer forms part of the Museum of English Rural Life collection and cannot be accessed at our institution.
Reason of de-accessioning is severe woodboring insect activity in the past, has disintegrate the base and lid of the basket, beyond conservation repair. See 2006/49 for an identicallly constructed basket.
The use of this rectangular hamper is unknown, but it is similar in shape to a laundry hamper. It is made of willow, with leather hinges and protective strips on the edges, metal fastenings, and two strong rope handles. The basket once belonged to Mrs Sylvia Reith-Riall (there is a label, 'Mrs Riall, Reeves Depositary Wokingham and Camberley') and the donor, who studied basketmaking, rescued it from a tip.
