  • Archival history
Citation in publication [Oliver, Tina, 'Smocks: A Guide to the Collections' (Reading: The University of Reading, 2000)] - 'In 1976 this linen smock was considered by the donor to be over 100 years old and originally worn in Surrey for 'Church, Highdays, and Holidays'. The garment is very wide but with a shallow armhole depth and without pockets. All elements of the reversible smock are finely stitched, the condition is good but there are signs of wear at the wrist edges of the cuffs. The smocked areas are small and there are rows of very small backstitch on the collar, shoulder band and cuffs.'
