Description
This is a cheese mould, also known as cheese vat, chesset or chessel. It is coopered, consisting of thirteen staves of oak held together by three iron bands which are rivetted together. The base is made of two pieces of wood and has 24 drainage holes. It was used for moulding and draining cheese.

The bands are screwed onto the mould and there are two iron handles screwed onto the sides above the middle band. The base is made of two pieces of wood and has 24 drainage holes. Other names for this type of mould are 'cheese vat' or 'chesset'.
