Archival history
Letter, H. J. Fenn to Mr Jewell, 15th October 1967 - '...I have acquired one odd thing very recently which may or may not be of interest to you. It is a block of paint, roughly 4.5cms x 10cms x 13cms. It was torn off a brick wall with sand and lime mortar at the old foundry at Bucklebury, near Newbury. At first sight it reminds one of a finely layered agate and was produced by years of rough cleaning of paint brushes on the wall. I have three similar examples in the paint shop at the back of my old cottage in Church Street in this village, with more varied colours than are exhibitied in the Bucklebury example. With the advent of spray painting I suspect this type of item will become more and more rare...'
