    The father of the donor was formerly a chartered accountant who in 1919 became a farm pupil. He managed various farms until 1928, when he took over Nell Bridge Farm with capital of £400, in partnership with two others whom he later bought out. Nell Bridge farm was at first a dairy farm with a large Border Leicester/Cheviot breeding flock and a few acres of arable for lucerne and straw. Since 1940 the farm has steadily changed to arable farming Farm size etc. 250 acres; stone brash; tenants to Ecclesiastical Commissioners until the purchase of the farm in 1961; part of the farm is very low-lying and subject to floods
