    Thomas Hume, who was formerly a coal merchant moved from Edinburgh to Nethersole Farm in about 1900. He left Nethersole in 1923 to take over Rowling Hall. His son, Peter Hume, took over Upper Rowling Farm in 1927. The management of the two farms was closely integrated Farm size etc. Nethersole Farm : about 220 acres; brick earths; tenants to H. Fitzwalter Plumtre; Rowling Hall 270 acres; brick earths; tenants to Lord Fitzwalter; Upper Rowling Farm 200 acres; brick earths; tenants to Lord Fitzwalter
