The donor started work at the farm in 1930 to assist the widow of the previous occupants, S.J. Godwin. He became a partner in 1950 and assumed sole tenancy on the death of his partner in 1955. Although the records have been carefully kept, the donor considers that the farm was unambitiously managed and insufficiently productive in the thirties. It was only with difficulty that he persuaded his employer to take up the retailing of milk in 1935 Farm size etc : Estate unknown, probably near Bradfield, co. Berks; Malt House Farm : 89 acres; gravel soils; tenant to Sir Edward Freeling
