Senior Lecturer
The Editor of
Pirandello Studies and co-editor of
The Italianist, she has published on a wide range of subjects,
especially on Futurism and the early twentieth-century avant-garde in Italy and
on links between French and Italian culture. She also has a particular interest
in twentieth-century Italian fiction, especially works written by women, and has
published on Francesca Duranti and Rosetta Loy. Recent work includes 'The Impact
of French Symbolism on Italian Poetry', in Symbolism, Decadence and
the Fin-de-Siècle, ed. P. McGuinness (Exeter, Exeter University Press,
2000), 244-63; 'Marinetti, Soffici and French Literature', in International
Futurism in Arts and Literature, ed. G. Berghaus (Berlin/New York,
Walter De Gruyter, 2000), 15-38; ‘Princes and Pierrots: Palazzeschi’s Early
Writing and Laforgue’, Italian Studies 58 (2003), 104-32; and ‘Symbolism
and Latinity: Anthologie-Revue de France et d’Italie and its diffusion of
French literature in Italy’ (forthcoming in The Italianist (2006)). She
is happy to supervise doctoral students on these and related aspects of
twentieth-century culture.
