Professor Carl Stychin
Professor Carl STYCHIN, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise), came to the University of Reading as Professor of Law and Social Theory in 1998. He served as Head of the School of Law from 2001 to 2003, and was elected Dean of FESS in 2003. He was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor in April 2005. He was educated in Canada (BA, Alberta; LLB, Toronto) and the United States (LLM, Columbia University in the City of New York), and previously taught at Keele University (1992-98). Professor Stychin's primary area of research is law, gender and sexuality, and he is the author of three major monographs: "Law's Desire: Sexuality and the Limits of Justice" (Routledge, 1995); "A Nation by Rights: National Cultures, Sexual Identity Politics and the Discourse of Rights" (Temple University Press, 1998), and "Governing Sexuality: The Changing Politics of Citizenship and Law Reform" (Hart Publishing, 2003). He has also co-edited two collections of essays and is the author of numerous periodical articles. He is a member of the Peer Review College of the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
