Adrian Williams is Research Dean for Health and Professor of Pharmaceutics at the University of Reading. Following his BSc (Hons) in Biology and Chemistry (1987), he completed his PhD on transdermal and topical drug delivery in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Bradford (1990) where he then joined the academic staff and was subsequently promoted to Professor of Biophysical Pharmaceutics in 2002. He joined the fledgling School of Pharmacy at the University of Reading in 2004 as Professor of Pharmaceutics and served as the Head of the School of Pharmacy (2008) and then Head of the School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy (2011).
Professor Williams’ research is centred on drug delivery and novel formulations, predominantly for delivering drugs to and through the skin, but also for poorly-water soluble actives via the oral route, manipulating and characterising the solid state properties of drugs, mucoadhesive formulations and ocular drug delivery. His research has been published extensively, presented at national and international conferences and has generated several patents, supported by funding from BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC and various pharmaceutical companies including Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merck Sharp and Dohme, GlaxoSmithKline, MedPharm and PharMaterials.
He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, the Royal Society of Chemistry and of the UK Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
