Role
Professor Adrian Williams is Research Dean for Agriculture, Food & Health, supporting research that spans agricultural ecosystems and economics, food production and processing, and both fundamental and applied research into health and disease. The Theme draws together collaborations between 235 researchers in the Schools of Agriculture, Policy and Development; Biological Sciences; Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy; and Psychology and Clinical Languages. Over the last three years, we have secured more than £45million in research funding from diverse supporters including Research Councils, the European Union, charities and commercial partners.
Adrian holds a Chair in Pharmaceutics in the Reading School of Pharmacy and previously served as the Head of the School of Pharmacy (2008) and then Head of the School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy (2011). He leads a strong research group centred on drug delivery and novel formulations, predominantly for delivering drugs to and through the skin, mucus membranes and eyes. His research has generated several patents, supported by funding from BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC and pharmaceutical companies including Bristol-Myers Squibb, GSK, MedPharm and PharMaterials. He has supervised more than 50 PhD students to successful completion.
Adrian is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the UK Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and of the Higher Education Academy.
