How to get to our Reading campuses by foot or on bicycle
Our campuses in the Reading area are within easy walking and cycling distance from local stations. The main entrance to the Whiteknights campus and our London Road campus are best reached from Reading station, and the Earley Gate entrance to the Whiteknights campus from Earley station.

Whiteknights campus from Reading station
Approximately 1.6 miles, around 40 minutes on foot to edge of campus, please allow a further 10 minutes to find your destination
- With the station behind you, turn towards the statue of Edward VII and proceed into Station Road
- At the crossroads, turn left into Friar Street towards the old town Hall
- Bear right into Market Place, with the Post Office on your left, follow the road past Lloyds Bank
- At the junction with Kings Road, cross over into Duke Street, crossing the canal with the Oracle centre on your right
- Proceed straight into London Street, following signs for UoR
- Turn first left into London Road, then first right into Kendrick Road
- At the top of the hill, turn left into Christchurch Road
- At traffic lights follow the main road into Shinfield Road
- University entrance on your left
Earley Gate entrance from Earley station
Approximately 0.8 miles, around 15 minutes by foot to the edge of campus, please allow extra time to find your destination
- Bear left on Station Road
- Turn right onto Wokingham Road (A329)
- Turn left onto Wilderness Road (B3350)
- Turn right onto Whiteknights Road
London Road campus from Reading station
Approximately 0.7 miles, around 20 minutes by foot
- Follow the instructions for Whiteknights campus until London Road, then:
- Take second exit on the right into Crown Place, the University entrance is signposted
When on our campuses
In general, please:
- Please keep to the paths and do not disturb wildlife or pick flowers
- Do not leave any litter or light fires
- Please keep away from buildings and research areas
- Roller-skating, skate-boarding and kite-flying are not allowed
- The lake is not suitable for water sports and activities
- Shooting, archery, golf or other projectile sports are not allowed
- Please listen to any additional advice given by the University staff
- Access may be restricted or permission withdrawn at any time.
In addition, dog-walkers please:
- Keep dogs on leads at all times and away from sports pitches
- Take dog fouling away for disposal.
Please note:
Whiteknights is the private property of The University of Reading. It has never been a park, but a public right of way runs from Earley Gate to Shinfield Road. The University reserves the right to prohibit pedestrian access to other areas as necessary. Visitors must adhere to University rules and regulations which are in operation throughout the University's privately owned land at Whiteknights and elsewhere.
