How to get to the University campuses by car

The Whiteknights and London Road campuses in Reading are approximately 1.5 miles from the M4 motorway. Our Greenlands campus is close to Henley. See below for exact directions.

Parking on our campuses

Visitors to our campuses on Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm should be aware that parking needs to be prearranged and that a parking permit must be displayed. Please contact the member of staff or department you are visiting and ask them to arrange a visitor's parking permit.

Permits or prearranged parking are not required outside of these times.

Whiteknights campus

Sat nav postcode for Shinfield Road and Pepper Lane entrances: RG6 6UR 

Sat nav postcode for the Earley Gate entrance: RG6 7BE

The easiest and most direct route is via the M4 motorway.

Leave the motorway at Junction 11. Please note that there have been recent changes to the road layout at the top of the slip road.

  • When you reach the roundabout at the top of the slip road follow the signs for the University of Reading.
  • Follow this road and at the first roundabout turn left on to the A327 (Shinfield Road).
  • Follow this road and go straight through two sets of traffic lights, passing a parade of shops and Leighton Park School.

For the main entrance and reception

  • Continue straight across at the third set of traffic lights, the junction with Pepper Lane 
  • After the traffic light junction you will see the campus on the right hand side, enter via the Shinfield Road entrance

For the Earley Gate entrance

  • Turn right at the third traffic light junction into Pepper Lane.
  • Continue past the Pepper Lane entrance to the University until you reach a roundabout. Turn left onto Wilderness Road.
  • Follow this road until the third mini-roundabout and turn left into Whiteknights Road. The entrance to the University is immediately on your left.

London Road campus

  • Follow this road and at the first roundabout turn left on to the A327 (Shinfield Road).

  • Follow this road and through three sets of traffic lights, passing a parade of shops and Leighton Park School.

  • Immediately after passing the Shinfield Road entrance to Whiteknights Campus, get into the right hand filter lane at the traffic lights.

  • Turn right and then immediately left into Redlands Road.

  • Follow Redlands Road downhill passing the Museum of English Rural Life on your left, to the junction with London Road (A4).
  • Keep in the left hand lane and turn left into Crown Place.
  • Follow signs to Whitegates car park.

Greenlands campus

Sat nav postcode: RG9 3AU

From M4/London/Heathrow:

  • Leave the M4 motorway at Junction 8/9 signposted to Henley (via the A404(M) ). Take the A4130 into the centre of Henley.

From M4/Bristol:

  • Leave the M4 at Junction 10 signposted A329(M) towards Reading. Follow the Henley signs via the A4 and the A321 through Wargrave. Then join the A4130 towards Henley Bridge.

From M40:

  • Leave the M40 at Junction 4. Take the A404 dual carriage way signposted Marlow/Bourne End. From Marlow town centre take the A4155, towards Henley-on-Thames.

From M25/North:

  • Leave the M25 at Junction 16. Take the M40, signposted Oxford. Then follow the directions above for arrival from M40

From M25/South:

  • Leave the M25 at Junction 15. Take the M4 West. Then follow the directions for M4/London as above.

Approaching the Business School

  • Approaching from Marlow/A4155:
    The main Business School entrance is on the left approximately 1 mile after the speed de-restriction sign as you leave the village of Mill End.
  • Approaching from Henley Bridge/A4130:
    Go straight across the traffic lights on the bridge over the river. Go up to the next traffic lights in the town centre. Turn right following the signs for Marlow (A4155). At the first mini roundabout, go straight ahead, then turn right towards Marlow/A4155 at the second mini roundabout. The Business School is situated on the right approximately 2 miles from Henley.

The turning

The turning into the Greenlands site is quite acute. It can be identified by a small white gatehouse, behind a low brick wall with black railings.
