Changing attitudes towards volunteering
Volunteers for Museums was a project funded by Renaissance South East through their museum development programme. The project aim was to bring about changes in attitude, knowledge, skills and practice around volunteering and volunteer management in the museum sector, and to embed good practice in volunteer management systems so that volunteer programmes can be built up and sustained.
Partners
Volunteers for Museums was a partnership of 8 museums across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, and ran from February 2010 to March 2011. Our partners were:
- Banbury Museum
- Buckinghamshire County Museum
- Chiltern Open Air Museum
- Oxfordshire Museum Service
- Reading Museum
- the River & Rowing Museum
- Wycombe Museum
Heritage Volunteer Managers Forum
The project team and partners also set up the Heritage Volunteer Managers Forum for volunteer managers to share good practice, get advice from colleagues and discuss current issues. This forum still meets, and if you would like to join it or attend the next meeting please contact Rob Davies at the Museum of English Rural Life.
Resources
Our project produced a number of Resources which are available to use and a number of case studies.
