Out of Term time:

During University vacation times, the Museum will be normally open only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9.00 am-4.30 pm and for our special events. Please email or ring us on 0118 378 6990 for up to date opening times.

Term Opening Hours:

During term time the Ure Museum is normally open weekdays 9.00 am to 4.30 pm. Admission to the museum is free. As the museum is also used for educational activities visitors may find themselves sharing the space with a class. See our Events page for forthcoming special events.



Getting to the Museum

The Museum is based in the centre of the University of Reading, Whiteknights campus, on the ground floor of the Humanities and Social Sciences (HumSS) building, in the Department of Classics, room 38. HumSS is shown on the map below.

Enter the University Campus off the A327 Shinfield Road, onto Queens's Drive (the turning with the University Sports Centre on the corner). See our exact location on on Google™ maps.

Please be aware that visitors wishing to park on the campus must call  0118 378 6990 or email
at least 48 in advance so that we can arrange parking permits. It is not possible to park on campus Monday-Friday
between 8am and 5pm without a permit.

The university does have very good bus links from the town centre, but please visit for more information on getting to Whiteknights campus.


Reading Buses routes 9, 20, 21 and 21a and Thames Travel route 144 provide regular bus service from Reading station.
