Why Reading?
The University of
Reading is nationally and internationally recognised for the quality of its
research and teaching quality. Our reputation as one of the 20 most
research-powerful universities in the UK is based on the excellence of our academics and students and the facilities available to them. The University has
a very good record in its teaching quality assessments.
Over 80% of our subjects have scored 21 points or more (out of a maximum of 24)
in the National Teaching Quality Assessments and this has been backed up with
the latest Research Assessment Exercise (2001) results which now means that
Reading has nearly 60 % of its staff in departments rated 5 or the maximum 5*
(on a scale of 1 to 5*).
We offer a wide range of modules in each Faculty to Study Abroad students, from
the pure and applied sciences to languages, social sciences and fine art. It is
a superb choice for students who want a quality education from a
well-established and respected university.

This
University's traditions and roots go back
into the later years of the nineteenth
century, when local
initiatives established schools of science and art in Reading.
After a generation as a University College, the University received its
Charter in 1926. Development at
Whiteknights began in 1954 and continues to this day.
The 300 acres of landscaped parkland, with many fine trees, provide an
ideal setting for a modern campus university.
A
university in Britain has the dual functions of teaching and research; although
both these activities can be engaged in separately, being done together
strengthens both. The University
has a reputation world wide for research and scholarship.
Twenty-three
Schools grouped into the four faculties of Arts & Humanities; Economic and
Social Sciences; Life Sciences and Science provide teaching.
