eligible to study at Reading as part of the SOCRATES-Erasmus programme, or as a
fee paying student. Please discuss with the International Office of your home
institution

of a JYA programme - please consult your International Office of your home

How long can I study in Reading?
Students are able to study in Reading for either one, two or three terms.
Your Study Abroad advisor at your home university will be able to advise you about what
is best for you.
How many modules/classes do I have to take?
It is not the number of modules/classes that you take rather the amount of
Credits that you receive for the modules.
Students must study for the same
amount of credits as a full time student - 20 ECTS for one term, 40 ECTS for
two terms and 60 ECTS for three terms.
Will my credits transfer to my Home University?
It is essential that you have your home institution's
approval of your study programme here at Reading BEFORE you arrive.
How long will it take to be accepted after submitting my application form?
Providing the information you send to
us is correct and complete, we aim to try process your application form within
four to six weeks of its arrival in the office (after the application deadline
of June 2004) , although we will attempt to acknowledge receipt of your
application via e-mail.
Once I have been accepted can I definitely study for
the modules I have asked for?
Not necessarily. Students are
accepted onto the exchange although for many reasons they may not be able to
study for the modules they have requested. Many modules are extremely
restricted and a extremely popular with many more students applying than there are
spaces available. If you need to take specific modules to satisfy the
requirements of your home institution you should try to inform us in advance
with as much notice as possible.
Am I allowed to change modules after the start of
term?
Any changes needed to be listed on your Learning
Agreement and ratified with the Reading academic department and the
Reading International Office. No changes can be made whatsoever after week two of term.
Failure to follow these procedures could lead to you receiving no credit for
your study period here.
Am I assured of accommodation in Hall?
No. We have a limited quota of rooms available for
students in our Halls of Residence. We try to allocate as many students as we
can, but unfortunately we are unable to find University accommodation for
everyone. This is done on a 'first come-first served' basis i.e. the earlier we
receive your application the better your chances!
Can I arrange my own accommodation?
You are permitted to live in private housing in the
Reading area, if you chose, and the University Accommodation Office will be more
than willing to assist you in finding suitable housing. we will also send
information to students during the Summer. However please do not contact the
Accommodation Office or individual Halls for Halls of residence accommodation as
your request will be forwarded to the
Reading International Office.
Can I choose which Hall I live in?
Student can express a preference for which Hall they
would prefer to stay in, but due to limited room allocations we cannot guarantee
that we will be able to fulfil your request. If you are not successful in being
placed into your first choice hall we will do our best to find you a suitable
replacement
When will I find out information about when and where
I need to go when I arrive at Reading?
We will be placing up-to-date information on the
Arrival Information page nearer the start of the academic year. We will also
send information to you by post during the Summer.
Is there free computer access?
Yes. The University has numerous computer facilities

to be able to use these computers, but we give this to you when your enrol and
are are registered as a student

No. Students are not permitted to leave the University
before the end of the terms of the academic period that have chosen to study.
