International Foundation Programme (IFP)
The International Foundation Programme is a one-year programme for international students who do not possess the normal undergraduate entry requirements of A level qualifications or the equivalent. The IFP is one of the programmes delivered through the University's International Studyand Language Centre (ISLC). The ISLC is fully staffed and managed by highly qualified and experienced University tutors and lecturers. The IFP provides access to most degrees at University and in doing so, it enables students from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds to gain an academic qualification which will be universally recognised and accepted.
Description:
The IFP will provide you with the academic training and language and study skils to enable you to commence your undergraduate studies with knowledge and confidence. You will be required to study three 40 credit modules and a 20 credit module in Academic Skills. Your 40 credit modules will be chosen from the following subjects according to your intended degree programme:
- Art
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Economics
- Environmental Science
- Further Mathematics and Computer Science
- International English
- IT and Statistics
- Law
- Management and Statistics
- Mathematics
- Mathematics for Economics
- Physics
- Politics
- Sociology
Teaching is through lectures, small group seminars and tutorials and, in some science subjects, practical classes in the laboratory. All teachers are academic members of the University with considerable experience in teaching international students. In addition to the academic support you will receive, you will have a personal tutor who will be responsible for helping you to settle in to your now environment and guiding you through the foundation year. Help is also available through our individual support system which gives every student access to tailored skills, language and maths tutorials. As a full member of the University, you will also have access to all the academic, welfare, social and sports facilities of the University. All IFP students are guaranteed accomodation in a hall of residence.
