BSc Speech and Language Therapy
Language is at the heart of human life. Its study is critical to our understanding of ourselves as members of society, as individuals and as a species. At Reading we offer students the opportunity to study all three aspects of this most complex form of human behaviour. Our BSc Speech and Language Therapy is a challenging and exciting four-year pre-registration programme for students wishing to qualify as speech and language therapists and is recognised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and approved by the Health Professions Council.

The four year BSc degree in Speech and Language Therapy is a busy and exciting programme that will prepare you for a professional qualification. In order to practise as a speech and language therapist you need to study a range of subjects. You will study how language is structured and how it develops in children. You will learn about atypical development of speech and language problems in children and about acquired speech and language problems in adults. Classes in psychology and medical studeis will add to your knowledge of normal and abnormal development in children and your understanding of a wide range of communication problems. Practical classes and working in speech and language therapy clinics will help you learn clinical skills and are an important part of this programme.
Special features
We run speech and language therapy clinics on the campus in collaboration with the local health authority and these provide part of your clinical experience. We will introduce you to instrumental analyses of speech and the use of computer-assisted analyses of language. You will have opportunities to participate in research programmes and you will be required to develop a small, clinically-related research project in your final year.
