BSc Chemistry with a Year in Industry

Chemistry is the science that has the most direct and dramatic impact on our lives. Materials, medicines, computers, clothes - they're all made up of molecules, the building blocks of chemistry. Chemists strive to make them more efficiently, more conveniently and with the minimum effect on the environment. If you want to preserve the environment, chemistry plays the key role in our understanding of the air we breathe, the water we drink and the land we grow our food on. Chemistry is the science that shapes the world we will live in tomorrow.

4 years full-time

The BSc programme incorporates all the latest developments in modern chemical science and has a well proven record of providing students with a high calibre qualification leading to a wide range of professional occupations or research degrees. In Years 1 and 2, you will cover the core chemistry training essential to a sound understanding of the subject and will then be able to study a number of specialisms, for example organometallics in synthesis, surface chemistry, polymers and new materials. Much of the final year is dedicated to your own research project. It is at this advanced stage of the degree that you will really start putting your chemistry knowledge into practice. If you are interested in gaining work experience as part of your course, then we offer a four-year programme including a Year in Industry.
