4 years full-time including a 1-year paid work placement

This degree programme is designed to prepare graduates for responsible and professional roles in both the public and private sectors. Graduates enter careers in marketing, banking and finance, consultancies, management accountancy, the civil service, retailing and other service industries. You will gain a strong grounding in the functional areas of business and explore the key themes and emerging challenges facing business in a global context. This encompasses both the 'internal' environment of the firm such as human resources, organisational behaviour and culture, utilising financial and accounting information, ethical management, IT management and entrepreneurship - and the 'external' environment - such as markets, marketing, strategy, corporate finance, corporate social responsibility, the cultural context in which firms operate and entrepreneurial direction. In the first year you will study modules in marketing and strategy, organisational behaviour and culture and enterprise. Modules supported by the School's Centre for Entrepreneurship challenge you to develop your business planning capabilities and invite you to participate in a competition to develop and potentially even launch your own small business. In the second year modules include finance, marketing management and business strategy. For a number of modules we welcome experts from industry to share their expertise and experience. In the third year you will enjoy the opportunity to undertake a one-year, paid work placement. This experience will significantly enhance your CV and future graduate employment prospects, help you to build a professional network and provide a valuable opportunity to apply and further develop your knowledge and skills. In the fourth and final year there are no core modules. You will instead examine areas already studied at a more advanced level and select from a wide range of optional modules, allowing you to tailor your degree programme to suit your individual interests and ambitions.
