BA Accounting and Economics

Henley Business School is the largest faculty within the University of Reading and one of the few business schools worldwide to hold triple-accredited status from the UK, European and US accrediting bodies (AMBA, EQUIS, AACSB), placing us among the top 1% of global business schools. Henley welcomes over 125 new undergraduate students in accounting and business and management each academic year and is home to nearly 1,000 undergraduate students in total.

These degree programmes focus on the broad areas of accounting and economics and are designed to prepare graduates for a variety of responsible and professional managerial roles in both the public and private sectors. Many graduates enter training contracts with accountancy firms whilst others find roles in banking and finance, management accountancy, the civil service, sales and marketing, retailing and other service industries. On both programmes you will gain a detailed knowledge, critical understanding and a range of technical application skills relating to the key business function of accounting and its three core areas of financial reporting, management accounting and business finance which progress through the degree programmes. This is complemented by a focus on the progressive study of the core theory and application of micro and macro economics. As a result you will graduate with knowledge, professional and technical skills, and a heightened sense of commercial awareness that will be immediately transferable to the business environment. On the BSc programme, there is a greater emphasis on mathematical and statistical content and the development of strong technical skills. Both programmes differ from more general degrees in economics due to their focus on core macroeconomic and microeconomic theory. In the third year you will have the opportunity to undertake either a one-year work placement or an optional work placement module. This experience will significantly enhance your CV and future graduate employment prospects, help you to build a professional network and provide a valuable opportunity to apply and further develop your knowledge and skills.
