My experience is definitely positive: Lots of support, lots of encouragement and lots of resources!
Experience of study at Reading
As a student from a different academic setting in a developing country, I have enjoyed and benefited from the very high level of attention and the time committed to my work by the Professors. Both my PhD supervisors are absolutely brilliant leaving me a lot of freedom to explore my field on my own. They read my work on time and give advice whenever I need it. I am given abundant opportunities to develop professionally getting involved in conferences organized and participated.
The availability of books and the efficiency of the library are amazing. The library at Reading offers excellent services; I have found inter-library loans particularly efficient which are why I need when depth is an essential component of my work. I get allocated a study space with all the requirements and the institute premises and facilities can be accessed all the time. It is possible to work up to late in the night as public transport within Reading is very efficient and the streets are safe.
Experience in University life
One of the best aspects of university life in Reading in particular postgraduate study is the fact everything here is so international. Every week there are plenty of conferences and cultural activities organised by the Student Union. The Student Union also provides confidential advice on a range of issues. As a postgraduate, university life is as much about researching, as about the socialising and making friends. So I have plenty of time during the week to do other activities, to go out, even to work in the weekends as I have done!
I am happy living in Reading. Reading is a silent city very quiet and peaceful. I have a happy life here.
