Profile: Susan Ogunbunmi
What attracted you to the University of Reading?
My attraction to reading was the ICMA Centre and the unique MSc programmes offered. Further, I was keen on going to one of the leading universities in the UK, and Reading happens to take the lead in Research, and the ICMA Centre is the only business school for Financial Markets.
My course of study is specifically designed for anyone interested in the burgeoning Investment Banking profession, and wish to further hone their skills to be on a par with the dynamic capital markets worldwide. Having worked as an analyst in the industry in the area of Portfolio/Asset Management, and wishing to gain exposure to global investment management practice, I decided to enrol for my course.
My experience at Reading is unforgettable because of the network of friends I've made, the exceptional skill sets of my lecturers and tutors, the practical nature of delivery of the course content, and the increasing demand for ICMA graduates in the financial job market.
Have you experienced any difficulties?
I think all the challenges I had along the way contributed to my success on the course, because I had access to my tutors, lecturers, university support, and new friends from different countries, I was only home sick at the beginning, but wished i could stay longer now.
Have you got any advice for future students?
My advice is simply for students to make use of the support services provided by the departments and the university, and to have a study plan.
What activities would you recommend to others?
I love using the gym, and I'd recommend regular fitness programme, which is accessible on campus in the SportsPark.
What do you think you have gained from the experience?
I'm well equipped to better perform my role as a Portfolio Manager, and deliver cutting edge services to my clients and employer. Nothing beats being on top of one's game! I'm so confident of that fact right now!
What are you planning to do when you finish your course?
I'll be returning to my home country, Nigeria to contribute to its evolving Investment Banking industry and the fast paced capital Market.
