Drama Method Studies
This programme promotes the teaching of drama as a subject in its own right and prepares you to teach it throughout the 11-18 age range taking account of the latest developments in GCSE, AS and A level specifications.

The programme is an exciting mix of practical workshops, interactive seminars and school based research projects. It is designed to help you to review your own experiences and concepts of drama, as well as to consider how people learn through engaging with the art form. The taught sessions at the university explore strategies designed to help children progress in their abilities to make, perform and critically respond to drama. The knowledge, skills and understanding acquired through working in the context of drama are linked to the requirements of the National Curriculum and KS3 Strategy. Considerable attention is paid to links between drama and the development of literacy and creative thinking. Links are also made to the study of the media, English language and literature and the development of key skills.

The programme has tremendously productive links with local schools where drama is a thriving part of the curriculum. Trainees can expect to be placed in specialist and highly successful departments. The induction into teaching is gentle yet rigorous. Trainees are extremely well supported and spend a good deal of time working alongside experienced teachers before taking the reins themselves. The drama programme as a whole is intense but hugely enjoyable with the annual result being that graduates are much sought after.

In the most recent round of Ofsted inspections this drama course was graded 1 in all categories.
