How to apply
If you wish to apply for one of our postgraduate programmes (except for a PGCE) you should apply direct to the University. Go to the applications page to obtain a copy of the University application form, or to apply online through UKPASS.
Applying for a Taught course (MA or MSc)
If you are applying for one of our taught courses you will need to fill out all sections of the application form. You can apply for a maximum of three courses per application form. Once you have completed the form you will need to send it to the Admissions Office along with all the relevant supplementary information see below for a checklist.
Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
If you are applying for a PGCE course you must apply through the Graduate Teacher Training Registry (GTTR). Please go to the for more information.
Applying for a Research Degree (PhD or MPhil)
If you are applying for a research programme you will need to fill out all sections of the application form and, for most programmes, submit a research proposal (of approximately 3-500 words) indicating the topic that you intend to study. You then need to send the application form along with all the supplementary information to the Admissions office see below for a checklist.
Applying for the Educational Doctorate programme (EdD)
If you are applying for the Educational Doctorate programme you will need to fill out all sections of the application form and submit a statement of approximately 700 words indicating: why you would like to undertake an Educational Doctorate, how the programme fits with your future career plans and an indicative area of research. You then need to send the application form along with all the supplementary information to the Admissions office see below for a checklist.
Application Checklist
1. Ensure you have completed all sections of the application form
2. If you are applying for a research degree and it is required make sure you have included a research proposal
3. Ensure that you have signed the application form
4. Make sure you have included the following:
- Full transcript of all previous degree programmes
- Copy of degree certificate (if applicable)
- Document confirming funding (if applicable)
- English Language certificate, more information is available on the English requirements page. (if your previous qualification was not studied in English)
- Two confidential references in sealed envelopes
