Bucks College vs Reading University

The mens team left Reading University on a sunny afternoon in November to play Buck College; we had never heard of them either. We were not alone on our journey; the football team was there and so was the basketball team. But more important, the netball team was also on our coach (the bus that is).

So after a very pleasant journey we arrived at Bucks College (henceforth BC) right on time. After we had changed it was time to enter the arena. And what an arena it was!! The volleyball field merely fitted in the hall and the outside lines almost coinsided with the walls. But luckily everything was in proportion so that our tallest middle hitter, Big P, could almost touch the roof if he had bothered to jump. The net was equally low, which might prove dangerous in blocking a spike; especially for our opponents.

After a long warm-up (almost the entire team had already become rather hot even before the warm-up started, but that was because of our rather gorgeous referee) we started the match. The match itself lasted shorter than our warm-up and within 15 minutes we had more or less thrashed our opponents. The only 5 points that BC managed to score was because of lack of attention (or, to put it differently, too much attention for the referee) on our side. After a long and rather silly friendly we decided to call it a day.

We still had a couple of hours to go before the bus back to Reading would pick us up so we decided to see and find out what the 1995 BC Student Union was like. In the Student Union a satisfactory, but more importantly, free meal was served. And to kill the time we all had a couple of pints which led to major problems on the way back. As soon as we arrived at Reading University we had to check out the bushes, so you can see that we're already a close team.

I'm very sorry if you're disappointed that the match review is so short in comparison to the pre- and post-match review, but that is just the way it was. If you have become enthusiastic about volleyball or the pre- and post-match activities then check out the volleyball home page for details.
