Where we think we're going with these pages
Here are a few things that we hope to be able to deliver in the near future (a sort of to-do list):
- Got to know AWK for the first time to make batch changes to all the pages. What a neat little program! Perl and Java are next on the list...
- Get those maps into place!!
- I finally decided that good old black on white was the way forward.
- Make these pages a little less mundane!!! Never fear, illustrations are pending. I have created a few colourful bits to liven things up a bit, starting with the colour, custom musical note hard rule. I think I need to make it thinner.
- Insert links to other Opera (and classical music) sites.
- Forms mania!!!!! I have a vision:
- A form which enables the public to join in on voting for which opera should be performed next. What a swell idea! Hmmm....geographical restrictions on who is elligible to vote?
- Prospective members should be able to indicate which position(s) they are interested in, by ticking check boxes next to lists of standard positions, as well as entries to allow suggestion of other positions.
- Reservation of tickets!!!
For the past few weeks, I've been using vi to edit the web pages!!! What an experience! I am also toying with the idea of using image maps, created as CGI (Computer Generated Imagery, as opposed to Common Gateway Interface). Gee, which software will I use? I dunno about that 3D model of an opera house, though...I doubt any machine I can easily get my hands on will be able to handle it!
Some of you may have noticed the variety of writing styles used throughout the RU Opera pages. WELL DONE! Seriously though, that is the product of having brought together bits written by (curiously) as many people as there are variations is styles!
Who is 'I'?!?!

A rare shot of the docmaster, in this case, taken with a high speed camera by a fast Finn. Pictured here eating reindeer sandwiches and sharing some chocolates with a French Frog.
I am Jason S Tay, a member of the RU Opera society since I arrived at Reading University (October 1993). I am reading a course in Cybernetics and Control Engineering, and I am at the end of the final year in my course. People find it strange that I should be a Cyberneticist (to-be) and like Opera. Most have visions of a leather-clad heavy metal dude. I also go snowboarding at every available opportunity. We don't get much snow in Malaysia.
I am also a member of the Silicon Corridor Linux User's Group, SCLUG (pronounced "slug").
